Mission/Purpose
We are members of Sister Cities International, a non-profit organization of
U.S. communities linked globally to promote lasting friendships. Originally
founded under the guidance of President Eisenhower, Sister Cities International
has helped more than 1200 cities link with over 2100 foreign cities in 127 countries.

Los Altos Sister Cities, Inc. (LASCI) is the non-profit, all volunteer organization which manages
the sister cities program for the City of Los Altos, located in Santa Clara County in the state of
California. We are located about 40 miles south of San Francisco down the peninsula in the heart
of the Silicon Valley electronics industry. Los Altos is a small, bedroom community with a downtown
of village-atmosphere shops. The area is served by the major airports of San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose.
The population of Los Altos, incorporated in 1952, is about 29,000 with a mix of retired seniors and
incoming young families. The area was originally a prolific agricultural producer, but was transformed during transition
to high-tech defense products and electronic commercial products. Los Altos has been largely in-filled by the
demand for more and more housing. The infusion of a highly educated work force has promoted the development
of very high quality schools.
